With anxiety mounting ahead of a Dinosaur Dragonfly revival, there couldn't have been a better motivator than working with BONE CRATE. One of my oldest music friends, and probably the first real Punk I met (of a select few to this day). They liked Hardcore, and Power-Violence. Not because it was an accessible all-ages scene in Saskatoon at the time..in fact quite the opposite. They were waving their own flag because they actually liked feedback and screaming and splitting cymbals with sticks. Hardcore. But even more remarkable than their prided turf in the sonic gutter was the appreciation and effort to understand what their friend's were passionate about. I'm not sure I fully understood then the incredible value in setting aside one's ego in pursuit of good Art.
There's an incredible bravery to Crashbonez work in its vulnerability and adaptability..whether it's Harsh noise or hip-hop production, free form podcasts, or even mental health advocacy through whatever medium people are connecting with. Rather than experimenting in search of a desired result...BONE CRATE is what occurs when experimentation is ingrained into one's worldview and approach to survival.
BONE CRATE's full length 'SERRATED BONE FRACTURE' last year was the heaviest thing to come out of the prairie's in a long time..and I immediately wanted to hear more. The tracks I was sent for this split are possibly the loudest pieces of audio I've ever dealt with. The challenge of adding anything valuable to something so full reminded me that aside from my ethereal meaning of art bullshit, the real goal here is to melt our sins with cold hard skram. I think the two tracks in collaboration will push some of you to a breaking point.
There really are going to be 12 of these splits...but the headroom has been Max'd in DDSS-001
